The Lake

This is Manxman’s Lake, or simply, The Lake, and is an inlet on the eastern side of Kirkcudbright Bay. It gets its name from being the landing place of marauding raiders from the Isle of Man (which lies in the middle of the Irish Sea). Apparently on one raid they set the town of Kirkcudbright afire. The inhabitants of the Isle of Man are known as Manxmen, and these days maraud no more, earning their shilling by entertaining holiday makers.
